As you learn more about Down Syndrome, you may find literature on complimentary or alternative therapies for children with Down syndrome. However, we urge you to discuss all therapies with your pediatrician and consider these important questions before trying an alternative therapy:
- Is the therapy documented to be safe and effective?
- Will the person promoting the therapy benefit from your use of the therapy? Proponents may have financial interests in the therapy.
- Is the therapy expensive or very demanding of your time?
- What are the risks or side effects?
You may find it helpful to talk to other parents who have experimented with complimentary and/or alternative therapies.
