March 21st marks the 9th annual World Down Syndrome Day, a day observed by the United Nations in order to promote a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome. This date was chosen because 3/21 represents the third copy of the 21st chromosome, which is the genetic condition known as “trisomy 21,” or “Down syndrome.”
